VITROS® XT Solutions Win Prestigious Global Edison Award for Innovation

Raritan, NJ

Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a global leader of in vitro diagnostics dedicated to improving and saving lives through innovative laboratory solutions, today announced it has been honored with a bronze Edison Award in the category of Medical/Dental Testing Solutions for its VITROS® XT Solutions, a comprehensive diagnostics suite that help labs obtain consistently fast, accurate and reliable results.

The Edison Awards is an annual competition honoring excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design and innovation. Ortho was previously recognized with an Edison Award in 2018 for its VITROS NEPHROCHECK® Test1 and in 2017 for the ORTHO VISION® Platform

“We are proud that our innovative solutions, including our new VITROS XT Solutions, continue to be recognized by the prestigious Edison Awards,” said Andy Greenfeld, director of platforms for Ortho’s clinical labs business unit. “Because every test is a life, we keep pursuing this legacy of excellence as we continue to invest in R&D and have conversations with our customers to develop solutions that meet their evolving needs for fast and accurate lab results.”

VITROS XT Solutions, which include the new VITROS XT 3400 Chemistry System and the VITROS XT 7600 Integrated System with new VITROS XT MicroSlides, offer an industry-leading 96.5 percent first-pass yield2 achieved by reducing the need for manual interventions such as those caused by reviews, reruns or redraws by 75 percent compared to competitive systems3. Ortho also has increased throughput by up to 40 percent compared to current slides4 as VITROS XT MicroSlides are able to simultaneously perform two tests frequently ordered together on one VITROS XT MicroSlide using digital imaging all within the same footprint.

The Edison Awards also recognized individuals at Ortho who were instrumental in the development and marketing of VITROS XT Solutions and their underlying technology: scientists Ted DiMagno and Carol Porteous, engineers Tim Cheehan and Johanna Miller, product manager Matthew Lyman and project leader Kevin Blake.

About Ortho’s VITROS® Systems

The VITROS Chemistry, Immunodiagnostics and Integrated Systems from Ortho Clinical Diagnostics are a portfolio of products and patented enabling technologies which help clinical laboratories diagnose, monitor and treat disease. VITROS Products are engineered to help clinical laboratories with organizational, operational and economic challenges.

The power of VITROS technology allows highly customizable configurations to meet clinical laboratories automation needs even when space is a challenge. Self-contained, waterless VITROS Systems provide the ability to run a high-volume lab in as little as an 8-by-30-foot space.

VITROS Systems offer an open architecture, “point-in-space” sampling design that makes it easy to link with the automation system. Sampling directly from the automation track maximizes sample routing efficiencies.

VITROS Systems offer the flexibility for operators to manually front-load samples at any time, even when the system is processing samples from the track.
